Constant engagement in devotional service can be performed only when one is working under the direction of a bona fide spiritual master. The Vedic injunction is that no one can have full knowledge without being under the guidance of an Acarya.
One has to follow the rules and regulations prescribed by the acaryas and thus, under superior guidance, realizing Krishna is fully possible, even in this material existence.
The influence of a pure devotee is such that if someone comes to associate with him with a little faith, one gets the chance of hearing about the Lord from authoritative scriptures like Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam.
Simply becoming initiated does not elevate one to the position of a high-class brahmana. One also has to discharge the duties and follow the regulative principles very rigidly.
