Devotee do not want liberation, they only want to serve. Service here or service there doesn't matter. 'Let me always serve you', that is the mood of a devotee.

Living Entities
The living entities are not actually meant to be under the control of the modes but when they reject Krishna then they become affected by the three modes of material nature and as a result of that they identify themselves with the material nature.
